Yuletide Letter 2025

Dear Yuletide Writer:

I'm sorry for the delay on this letter! I hope these prompts and ideas help you come up with a great story! And like I said before, I know I’ll love whatever you write for me! I just want to see more amazing stories in these amazing fandoms 🥹

This next part is a more detailed explanation of what I said in my sign up:

I don't have any triggers or anything I absolutely wouldn't want to see in a story. I like the kinds of stories that take place in universe and match the tone of the original. It's fun to see what's happening in the characters' lives post-series or behind the scenes. Here are a few things I like in general:

-Hurt/Comfort

I like a good Hurt/Comfort story! I like the kind of story where someone gets hurt or sick and the other characters have to take care of them. I like the comfort part better than the hurt part, but that’s not to say I don’t want to know the details of how they got hurt or sick.

-Brotherly Love

I like the kind of dynamic where there’s two guy friends and one of them is older and they’re really close. They have a strong bond and they’re always there for each other, and the older one feels protective of the younger one.

-Adventure and Action

I like when there’s stakes to the story, something vital that drives the characters to go on a journey. If it’s the kind of universe where there would be action, I like a good action scene. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a huge choreographed fight scene. Just a brief clash, or even just the sense that a clash happened.

-Crossovers

If there's anything you think would work well as a crossover with any of these fandoms and prompts, do it! I'm open to crossovers! Honestly, I'm open to any wild ideas, crossover or otherwise.

-Interactive Fiction

I'm open to Interactive Fiction if that's something you're interested in! You can learn more about it on the Yuletide Interactive Fiction post, and I also left a comment there explaining more of what I like about it. I would love a text adventure or a choose-your-own-adventure.

By the way, I'm able to receive treats!

Some of these prompts don’t include all of my requested characters. If I don't mention a character in a prompt, it’s okay if you don’t put them in your story. But feel free to include them if you like them! Also, if any of these prompts inspires you to go in a slightly different direction from what I said, I'm open to any new ideas you want to add to the different premises.

Columbo

Homicide detective immediately knows who murderer is and chooses to harass and annoy murderer for entire episode.  

Over the past year I became a super Columbo fan and it’s all thanks to Yuletide! Last year I matched with someone on Zelda: Majora’s Mask, and they had also requested Columbo. I didn’t even know that much about Columbo but for some reason I decided to write a Columbo/Majora’s Mask crossover. I watched a bunch of the show and thought it was so funny! It’s just Columbo harassing and annoying the murderer for an hour and a half until he busts them. It’s so funny.  

After writing that crossover last year, I’m really into Columbo crossovers. Each Columbo episode is him meeting completely new characters, so it’s the perfect setup for a crossover to happen. I’m totally open to a crossover of Columbo and any of the other fandoms I’ve requested. If there’s something else similar to these fandoms that you want to do a crossover with, that’s fine too. You could probably cross Columbo over with anything and I’d love to read it!

But if we matched on Columbo and you know nothing about any of these other fandoms, or if you just are not feeling the crossover thing, I totally understand.  

I love Columbo’s dog, so I would love it if you can find a way to include him even briefly!

o Columbo’s car finally breaks down so badly that he has to get a new one. He’s really uncomfortable with his new car/cars, and really wishes he had his old car. In the end his mechanic miraculously figures out how to get his car working again, but of course it’s still barely hanging on.

o Columbo is falsely accused of a crime and goes to jail. While in jail he solves a murder, and maybe the murder he solves helps clear his name.

o It turns out Columbo’s genius comes from his raincoat. While he’s wearing it, he’s able to notice the smallest details and piece together clues, but as soon as he takes it off, his abilities slowly fade.

Mario Kart

Super Mario and his friends decide to have kart racing tournaments together.

I nominated Mario Kart because of this specific tweet where Nintendo posted a video of a Koopa traveling across the world with his little bread basket. I thought it was so cute and funny! Why is he carrying this bread basket with him? Is he delivering it? Does he just like bread?

I also nominated Cow as a character because she looks really cool driving the motorcycle. Why is this cow cooler than any of us?

For these prompts, it’s okay if you don’t include every single character if I don’t mention them. If you come up with your own idea, please definitely include the Cow and Isabelle. I love Animal Crossing!

o Why is this Koopa traveling around the world with his little bread basket? What is his mission? Does he make it?

o How did Isabelle get invited to the Mario Kart tournaments? Does she know Mario or one of his friends?

o One of the Mario friends (maybe Yoshi?) discovers a cow who is really good at racing, and invites her to join the Mario Kart tournaments. The others are skeptical of this random cow, and she has to prove herself. Maybe she ends up saving the day with her incredible driving skills. It occurs to me that Isabelle is a great candidate to be the one to find the cow! I'm sure she knows a lot of cows.

o I just saw this tweet where the cow gets abducted by aliens?! More inspiration for your story 😂

Final Fantasy IV



Cool guy uses the power of the moon to defeat the darkness.

To be honest I’ve only played a little bit of Final Fantasy IV, so I’m not sure if my description is even true. But I love Cecil and Kain! I watched all of the Dissidia: Final Fantasy cutscenes and that’s where most of my knowledge of them comes from. Cecil seems like he has a strong sense of justice, like he always tries to see the good in people. He also seems a little naïve and inexperienced with the world. Kain seems like more of a realist. He’s willing to do anything to help his friends, even the hard stuff no one wants to do. If it has to get done, so be it.

I didn’t get very far in the game, but I know a little bit about Cecil’s journey. The part I remember the most is the part in the beginning where a town gets destroyed and he’s devastated. I don’t mind if you mention some non-spoiler events from the game, just please don’t include any major plot spoilers. If you know Dissidia I wouldn’t mind if the story takes place there.

o I remember Cecil is in a lot of anguish after the town gets destroyed in the beginning. Somewhere during his journey, he reflects on that town and what its destruction meant for him. What is Kain’s reaction to his friend’s musings?

o Cecil and Kain have a discussion about Cecil’s inner darkness. Cecil is having some self-doubt and Kain reassures him.

o Here's a prompt for if you know Dissidia. In Dissidia NT, Cecil teams up with the Warrior of Light from the original Final Fantasy and Noctis from Final Fantasy XV. Noctis talks like a normal, modern guy, while the other two talk like eloquent, medieval guys. Do Cecil and Noctis ever have any misunderstandings, or are they perfectly able to communicate no problem? 

The Legend of Zelda Wind Waker



Young boy travels across the sea on a quest to find his sister, helping random townsfolk along the way.

I played this game a lot when I was a kid, so I have a lot of great memories of this world. It has such a cute and positive atmosphere ☺️ It’s so fun to play as cute little Link venturing out into this vast world where adventure and treasure are everywhere. One thing I love about Zelda is that you always have to help random people with their problems. I love all these random, weird people!

Here are the prompts I came up with for Wind Winker. If I don’t mention a character in the prompt, it’s okay not to include them. If you come up with your own idea, please include all of the characters.

o The Dragonroost post office is overwhelmed with mail, so Quill asks for Link and Tetra’s help delivering letters and packages. Medli offers to help too. Every time they deliver some mail to someone, that person gives them more mail to deliver. It becomes a neverending chain of mail. They appreciate Quill a lot more after this. This story idea is an excuse to include all of your favorite characters!

o Post game, Link introduces Tetra and the pirate crew to his family and everyone else in his home village. They’re a bunch of rowdy pirates in a peaceful, quiet village, so it goes about as well as you’d expect.

o Quill has a letter to deliver that he really doesn’t want to deliver. He’s scared of the person it goes to, or he had a really bad experience with them last time he had a delivery for them. He asks for Link and Tetra’s help delivering it. You don’t have to include Medli in this idea, but I can imagine her coming up with a solution to whatever the conflict is between Quill and the person he doesn’t like.

Pokémon Concierge



Cute Pokémon relax on a tropical island resort.

I love the cute art style and relaxing vibe of this show! And I love that the whole point of the resort is to help people and Pokémon have a good time. The characters in the show are all so supportive and kind to each other. It’s all so cute 🥹 I would love to see a story that is more of the show: Haru and Psyduck living at the resort, exploring the island and helping a bunch of cute Pokémon. Psyduck is my favorite Pokémon, so please definitely include it in your story (I’m not sure what gender Haru’s Psyduck is! I was thinking of him as a boy but I’m not sure). I also love the human characters so I would love to see them too. I like Haru and Alisa the best, but Tyler is great too. It's also okay if you come up with a story that mostly focuses on the Pokémon's lives while the human characters are more in the background. I'm very open to whatever kind of story you want to tell on the island.

o Haru and the others are worried when Psyduck goes missing. It turns out it’s just lost on the island. 

o Haru gets sick and tries to work, but her friends convince her she needs to take the time off to rest and get better.

o To be honest I haven’t seen the second batch of episodes yet, but I know that her ex-boyfriend shows up. It would be so funny if her friends and Psyduck are all ready to defend her and beat him up for being a jerk to her. I wouldn’t be surprised if something like that already happens in the actual show, but the idea of Psyduck wanting to throw hands with this human guy is so funny to me that I wouldn't mind if you write about it happening again.

Star Wars: Visions "The Ninth Jedi"



Band of Jedi set out to rescue the their friend's father, the sabersmith.

I thought this was the best of the original Star Wars: Visions shorts. There’s so much potential for more story! Now there actually is more story with Star Wars: Visions 3, which has a continuation of this short! I haven’t seen it yet, but I’ll definitely watch it before our Yuletide stories are revealed, so feel free to include details from the second episode. Here are some things I was thinking about as I watched the first episode. If it turns out all of these questions get answered in the second episode, I don’t mind if you use these prompts as inspiration for a new idea:

o What’s Ethan’s backstory? What was he doing before he got there? What is his regular life like?

o What is the technology that lets lightsabers change color to reflect their wielder’s nature?

o Does Kara’s lightsaber stay a consistent color or does she have the ability to change her lightsaber color? Does it depend on her mood in that moment?
