themangosity | Yuletide Letter 2022

Dear Yuletide Writer:

I'm sure I'll love whatever you write for me because I just want to read some amazing stories in these fandoms!

I don't have any triggers or anything I absolutely wouldn't want to see in a story. I like the kinds of stories that take place in universe and match the tone of the original. It's fun to see what's happening in the characters' lives post-series or behind the scenes. Here are a few things I like in general:

-Hurt/Comfort

I like a good Hurt/Comfort story! I like the kind of story where someone gets hurt or sick and the other characters have to take care of them. I like the comfort part better than the hurt part, but that’s not to say I don’t want to know the details of how they got hurt or sick.

-Brotherly Love

I like the kind of dynamic where there’s two guy friends and one of them is older and they’re really close. They have a strong bond and they’re always there for each other, and the older one feels protective of the younger one.

-Adventure and Action

I like when there’s stakes to the story, something vital that drives the characters to go on a journey. If it’s the kind of universe where there would be action, I like a good action scene. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a huge choreographed fight scene. Just a brief clash, or even just the sense that a clash happened.

-Crossovers

If there's anything you think would work well as a crossover with any of these fandoms and prompts, do it! I'm open to crossovers!

And here are the prompts for the different fandoms!:

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask

I love this game for its unique, creepy vibe and colorful characters. You never know what kind of person you’re going to run into next or what they’re going to ask you to do! I like that one of the main themes of the game is that you’re helping people. At the same time, helping so many people in such a limited amount of time would probably be exhausting and impossible. Here are some ideas:

o Link enjoys helping people, but sometimes he wonders if it’s worth it since he’s constantly time traveling and everyone forgets what he’s done for them.

o One of my favorite locations to go in Majora's Mask is the Romani Ranch. It's a beautiful little place in a bleak world. There's a lot of potential for a heartwarming story here either during or after the events of the game. Maybe Link and Epona go there for a nice rest.

There’s also potential to explain what’s going on with those aliens, which could be less heartwarming! Maybe Link saves Romani from the aliens.

o Link is working himself to exhaustion trying to save the land and help as many people as possible, and Tatl has to convince him to take a rest.

Miitopia

I love the Miis and this game! Everything that happens is so funny!

I imagine a story that takes place at one of the inns or over various inns. The luxury of staying at the inn after roughing it, arguments, game nights. There could be an argument over stolen possessions, but it wasn’t on purpose. They’re just living on top of each other and things get mixed up.

I’d love anything that explores characters’ relationship as they learn to live with each other while living on the road.

In my game I used a bunch of Kingdom Hearts characters. I made Riku a knight, Sora a chef, and Kairi a cleric. If you don’t know Kingdom Hearts I understand if you don’t use these specific characters. Totally feel free to add some characters you like in the different roles, since that’s the point of Miitopia!

Star Wars: Visions "The Ninth Jedi"

I thought this was the best of the Star Wars: Visions shorts. There’s so much potential for more story! I would love a story that continues where this left off or explores some of the characters. Here are some things I was thinking about as I watched:

o What’s Ethan’s backstory? What was he doing before he got there? What is his regular life like?

o What is the technology that lets lightsabers change color to reflect their wielder’s nature?

o Does Kara’s lightsaber stay a consistent color or does she have the ability to change her lightsaber color? Does it depend on her mood in that moment?

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity

I recently watched all of the cutscenes for Age of Calamity and I think the premise it presents is really interesting. I don’t want to spoil it in case you haven’t played it yet, so I won’t give away any major plot points. If you want to write about the world in general instead of the nominated characters, that’s totally fine. And if you want to flash forward or crossover with Breath of the Wild, that’s great too! Here are some ideas I have:

o How did the super serious Sooga and the super laidback Kohga meet? And why on Hylia’s green earth is Sooga the right hand and not the leader of the Yiga? Maybe he’s totally satisfied not being in charge. Maybe Kohga actually has really good leadership skills.

o What are the ramifications of everything that happens in this game? How do these events affect Link and everyone in the future?

o How did Kohga and Sooga end up working with the seer?
